Mr. Darcy? I could more easily forgive his vanity had he not wounded mine.

I went to the Renaissance faire dressed as a warrior.  I had a real sword with me, too.  I was standing (in character) next to a sword-fighting ring, where kids of all ages got the chance to pick up a sword and challenge the champion.  Some woman walks by, with her little girl.  The girl starts walking towards the ring, saying she wants to fight.  But the mom pulled her away hella sharply, and was like, “That’s for boys.”  You don’t want to be a BOY, do you?”    And the girl looked around and saw me.  I think she thought I was a boy; I had my hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a hood.  So she comes up to me and asks me, “Do you think girls can be fighters, too?”  And her mom looks like she’s silently gloating.  Like she thinks I’m going to say no.  So I take off my hood, untie my hair so that it flows freely, and kneel before her.  And I’m like, “Milady, anyone can be a fighter.”  I swear, the look on that mother’s face made my day.

*Unemployed^

Let’s go through the list, shall we?

  • Stalking Cat was a computer programmer before he passed away earlier this year. He was Native American and trying to become closer to his totem animal. Through this, he helped pioneer all types of body modification and holds several Guinness Book Records.
  • Erik Sprague, aka Lizard Man, was a former PhD candidate. He has a bachelor’s in philosophy and is a performance artist: both through international side shows and as a music festival host.
  • Maria Jose Cristerna aka “La Mujer Vampiro”  (Vampire Woman) is the mother of four children and a fuckin’ lawyer. She started her transformation after getting out of an abusive marriage, and has talked out against domestic violence.
  • Rick Genest aka Rico The Zombie is a fucking international model, has more sponsorships than any of us could ever hope, and was featured in Lady Gaga’s Born This Way video. Not bad for a 27-year old former homeless punk, I’d say.

reblogging for the well researched and accurate shut down, good work mate

also you know, tattoos cost money so you can’t really be unemployed and covered head to toe in ink.

The way I see it people should be able to do what they want with their bodies and not be persecuted for it. If they’re happy with themselves that’s all that matters.

Bolded for fucking truth.

"Oh my God, what if you wake up some day, and you’re 65, or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written; or you didn’t go swimming in warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? It’s going to break your heart. Don’t let this happen."

I almost punched my computer. This is what’s wrong with the world and no one is doing anything about it. Oh my fucking god there’s no fucking hope is there?

It honestly doesn’t feel like it. A guy gets his feelings hurt and it’s justifiable to murder women. It’s justifiable for a man to rape a woman because a mans fragile ego cannot be broken, but women have to deal with this constantly, this constant threat of men, angry men.

ah yes let’s sympathize with this fucking guy and blame this on the women who didn’t want to date him. do you think maybe they felt uncomfortable around him? like… did you watch the fucking video? the guy obviously had issues. we shouldn’t be teaching young women to be afraid to say no. this isn’t a lesson on how to allow men to further control our bodies. this is a very sad tragedy.

A brief history of fandom, for the teenagers on here who somehow think tumblr invented fandom:

  • 1960s: with the advent of Star Trek, fandom moves into the public sphere for the first time with a television in almost every home, creating a large group of people all excited…

This is actually really important for people to understand. I need feminism because I used to say things like “I can’t wait until I have a boyfriend cheat on me just so I can slap a guy in the face”. I though it was disgusting and despicable for a man to slap a woman, but if a woman was slapping a man somehow that was okay. Even empowering.

But it’s not. It’s never okay. And I’m really glad that I changed my point of view and got educated, which is why I try to educate others too.
